Microsoft Ends Support for Contact Tracking in Dynamics 365 App for Outlook

Microsoft Ends Support for Contact Tracking: What It Means for You
As of October 1, 2025, Microsoft will officially end support for the contact tracking feature in the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook (classic desktop version). This feature, which allowed users to track Outlook contacts directly in dynamics 365 Sales, will no longer be available after this date. This update may seem minor, but for teams that rely on automatic contact syncing between Outlook and Dynamics 365 Sales, the change could create real workflow disruptions.
What’s Changing?
If you use the classic Outlook desktop app, you’ll no longer be able to automatically track contacts in Dynamics 365. As a result you will have to manually create contacts in Dynamics 365 Sales, and once those contacts exist you will be able to track them in your Outlook. Microsoft has removed support for this feature as part of its push toward the new Outlook experience, which doesn’t support this functionality.
It’s important to note that email, task, phone call, and appointment tracking features are not being deprecated and will continue to function as expected.
This change is part of a broader modernization effort, but it leaves many businesses with a gap in functionality that previously saved time and reduced manual data entry.
Who’s Affected?
- Teams using the Classic Outlook desktop app
- Users who relied on automatic contact syncing between Outlook and Dynamics 365
- Businesses who haven’t updated their CRM configuration in preparation for this change
If your team depends on seamless contact syncing to maintain accurate customer records, this change could lead to data fragmentation, missed opportunities, and increased manual workload.
What Are Your Options?
As of now, there is no direct replacement for the contact tracking feature in the new Outlook. While manual contact entry remains an option, it’s far from efficient—especially for sales and service teams who manage dozens or even hundreds of contacts each week. This shift significantly increases administrative overhead and may impact productivity unless alternative workflows or automation tools are adopted.
At Dominic Systems, we specialize in helping businesses adapt to CRM and Outlook changes with minimal disruption. Here’s how we can help address this challenge:
- Review current CRM and Outlook configurations to identify pain points
- Implement alternative syncing solutions or third party tools to replace lost functionality
- Automate new workflows to save time and reduce manual work
- Train teams to navigate the new Outlook experience confidently
